Former Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis Is Selling His Florida Home

For just under $5 million you can buy former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis' house at 3573 S Ocean Blvd, Highland Beach, FL 33487. What a steal? The home was built in 2001 and has 6,788 sqft. of living space. Some of the features are: an ocean view, 7 bedrooms, 8.5 baths, wine room, office, 4th floor roof deck, swimming pool and a gourmet kitchen. You can take a virtual tour of his home at Trulia.

Hmmm.... I'd be more impressed if was London Fletcher's home. Go 'Skins!

Are You Keeping House The New Way?

Test yourself by answering yes or no to the 30 questions below. Then check to see how your methods stack up with modern trends.

  1. Do you plan a week's menus in advance, making any changes necessary when you do your marketing?
  2. Do you market only once or twice a week?
  3. Do you use the new frozen and canned prepared foods?
  4. Do you use cake, frosting, pie crust, or biscuit mixes?
  5. Do you cook in quantity and freeze the extras for another meal?
  6. Do you rinse and stack dishes, then wash the once a day?
  7. Do you use pretty range-to-table cooking utensils?
  8. Are you using disposable work savers such as paper cups, paper hand towels, paper napkins or foil oven liners?
  9. Do you use table mats that can be sponged off with soap or syndet and water?
  10. Does the automatic electric timer on your range do your remembering for you?
  11. Do you have a mobile cart for laundry or kitchen use?
  12. Do you know what syndets are and do you use them?
  13. Do you use copper and stainless-steel cleaners?
  14. Do you use grease cleaners rather than elbow grease for ovens and ranges?
  15. Are you mopping linoleum and tile with a long-handled mop?
  16. Do you know how to use the attachments for your vacuum cleaner - and use them often?
  17. Do you have a cleaning-equipment storage closet on each floor of you house?
  18. Do you clean as you go (rinse cooking utensils or clean bathtub right after each use)?
  19. Do you get out all the tools you need for a job before you start and arrange the in order of use?
  20. Do you sit down to work whenever you can?
  21. Do you use contour-fitted sheets to cut down bed-making time?
  22. Do you know how to save steps when making beds?
  23. Do you do your laundry at a time most convenient for you?
  24. Do you buy new furnishings with ease of upkeep in mind?
  25. Are you using no-iron synthetic fabrics?
  26. Do you insist on washable paint and wallpaper?
  27. Are your table tops stainproof?
  28. Have you put away the collection of dust-catchers in your living room?
  29. Do you have a planning center or desk where you keep all the information you need to run your home (addresses, telephone numbers, bills, guarantees)?
  30. Do you study your housekeeping methods to see what jobs you can eliminate or simplify?

Score yourself:
22 to 30 yes's - You're up-to-date
13 to 21 yes's - You're working to hard
0 to 12 yes's - Your housework is getting the best of you.

Well... How did you do? Are you "up-to-date?" If you are, then you are "up-to-date" for 1956. In taking out trash from a listing that Tina and I have, I found a copy of Family Circle from February 1956. This questionnaire was in the issue. Syndet is a contraction for synthetic detergent.

Almost all housewives in the issue were wearing high heels, a dress and an apron just like on Leave It To Beaver.

The recipes look real good. I plan on making the cherry dessert on the cover with my daughter, Sydney. Does anybody want some?

A Good Idea...

I like these windows. The only draw back, that I can see, is no screen. I know a guy that could probably get you these windows. This looks like a European/Ikea type of kitchen.

I like the style of sink, but I would change it to a double bowl sink.

Also, I see a variation of the cutting board over the trash can in the counter top.

Water Main Out And I Wasn't Prepared

It had been a long day and my last appointment was in Caroline County. I was ready to go home. I received a text from my wife, Christine, that we don't have water. There was a main water line break in our part of the county. I can't remember the last time I was without public water. On my way home I stopped at Walmart and picked up 4 gallons of water. As I turned onto my street I could see the work lights and the workers doing their thing.

Being without water sure is inconvenient. I wasn't prepared. I used to make fun of people when I'd see 20 one gallon jugs of water under their house. I have a different perspective now. I'm going to be one of those people. Well... not anytime soon, apparently. I'm going to start saving our milk jugs for water. Yeah, I know. This is like closing the barn doors after the horses have run away. Better late than never.

FEMA has a web site called "Ready." The web address is http://www.ready.gov. There is a lot of good information there. I'm going to start building my disaster kit. I'm going to feel like a survivalist, but I will be prepared for the next inconvenience. I even signed up for e-mails from FEMA. You should, too.

John Wesley Jeffries Apprehended Today... Near Me

Authorities have been searching for John Wesley Jeffries all this week. He was a "person of interest" after a double homicide in Fauquier County near The Plains. The slain couple's car was found by Fredericksburg Police in the 1700 block of Lafayette Blvd. on Sunday evening. Jeffries has also been wanted in Spotsylvania County for malicious wounding and other charges. Jeffries is listed as a violent offender on the Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Authorities had been advising to call 911 if spotted and not to come in contact.

Tina and I have a vacant house with 6 vacant lots for sale behind the 7-Eleven on Lafayette Blvd. Today I was taking trash from the house to the landfill. Jeffries was apprehended at 3:50 p.m. today at the 2000 block of Lafayette Blvd. This is just down the street from our listing. Kudos to the Fredericksburg Police Department.

I pass by hundreds, maybe thousands, of people each day. It makes me wonder who else have I been in close proximity that is dangerous or wanted. I don't look for trouble, but sometimes trouble can find you. I'm not paranoid, but I do exercise the 2nd amendment. I enter many vacant homes. I don't take chances with my well being or my client's.

A Good Idea...

A cutting board drawer over a trash can? As long as you can give up some drawer space, why not? This is not a new idea. This idea goes back to at least the 1940's. This could be put together in a Saturday morning with some basic tools. I like the look of the wooden cutting board because if matches the wood of the cabinet drawers. I would make a quick disconnect so that I could take it out and clean it after using it. We have  a white plastic cutting board in our kitchen. I would probably try to make it work over the drawer. I think it would be easier to maintain. Any thoughts?

They're Ba-ack...

Yes, we are back on the 'net after a hiatus. There just wan't enough time to take care of business and update the blog with relevant content.

A few things have changed since the last time I made an update on the blog:
  • My partner has turned a page in her life. Tina has gone back to her maiden name, Tina Ritchie.
  • Tina is now a business owner. She is the broker/owner of Elite Realty Plus, LLC in Stafford County. Technically, my partner is my boss. Hmmmm...
  • Elite Realty Plus does property management.
  • And I'm saving money on our car insurance because we switched to USAA.
I have a ton of ideas for updates to the blog. Plus, if anyone has any questions, please send them to me. My plan is to keep updating the blog with information about homes, home ownership and just fun stuff about life.

Free Doughnut on National Doughnut Day

According to Krispy Kreme®, Friday, June 1st is National Doughnut Day. It is also their 75th birthday. In celebration they will be giving away a free doughnut of any variety.

I wonder if my good friend Officer Jonathan Kennedy is aware??? D'oh...
